On behalf of the Committee may I wish all our members all the best in 2022. 2020 AND 2021 have been difficult years with meetings being cancelled by the national regulations by restricting the use of the venues that we use to meet with our committee and members.
Hopefully 2022 will give us the opportunity to restart meetings and to liaise with members on issues that they need the committee to address
Again all the best in the new year. – F. Partington
Over the weekend of 15th and and 16th June, 2019 a very serious pollution took place on the canal in the Plank Lane Marina area.
Many hundreds of fish were lost the Canal and River Trust quoted a figure of 1000 fish deaths. This followed a previous incident several weeks earlier. On that occasion the EA were aware of the problem earlier and responded quickly; aeration was introduced almost immediately on a 24 hour basis.
On this occasion, however, chemicals were used rather than aeration and fish losses were much greater. The losses included a range of species and a greater range of sizes – with some very good sized fish being lost.
On a brighter note a number of good quality bream were introduced into Firs Park Lake
Will members please note that the EARLIER any POLLUTION ON ANY WATER IS REPORTED THE MORE EFFECTIVE CAN BE THE RESPONSE FROM THE EA AND CANAL AND RIVER TRUST
ANY CASES SHOULD BE REPORTED TO THE EA immediately on
